Preventive dental care focuses on keeping your smile healthy through early screenings,

intervention, and customized oral hygiene strategies.

At Hillside Family Dentistry, we recommend a checkup every six months to stay ahead

of otherwise preventable dental diseases.

Your First Exam

Every new patient will receive a thorough dental exam with Dr. Ada. We will also take any necessary X-rays and provide a preventive cleaning if time allows. Should you need any treatments, we will present our findings with you—as well as intraoral images—so that you can aid us in co-planning your restorative care. Dr. Ada will see you at periodic intervals to monitor changes in your oral health and intercept any issues as they arise, when they’re smaller and more conservative to treat.

Our dentist in Acworth sees patients of all ages, making it simpler for your family to access quality oral health care in one location!

SERVICES OFFERED

Our preventive care services include:

Preventive Cleanings for All Ages

Professional dental cleanings remove hard-to-reach areas of plaque and tartar buildup that accumulate between your dental checkups. These areas of buildup need to be cleaned away routinely, otherwise they can lead to the development of periodontal disease. Our hygienist will also polish your teeth to lift away any superficial stains, making your smile brighter than before.

Oral Hygiene Instruction

Everyone’s smile is unique. From the type of restorations we have to the shape of our mouth, not everyone brushes or flosses the same way. We’ll share tips and tricks for cleaning around hard-to-reach spaces with the right tools, such as water flossers or floss threaders to reach around bridges, braces, and more.

Digital X-rays

Digital X-rays allow you to see areas hidden between or inside of teeth that are invisible to the naked eye. Dr. Ada will use periodic X-rays as a baseline measurement and to screen for decay or bone loss. Our office only uses low dose digital imaging to ensure the safest level of care and a more efficient visit. We also have an in-house 3D CBCT scanner, improving diagnostics for issues related to wisdom teeth and dental implant therapy, among others. Depending on your age and oral health history, some of the most common types of X-rays we take are “bitewings” (to look between back teeth), “panos” (to see the entire jaw structure), and “full mouth series” (for a baseline recording of your oral anatomy every 3-5 years.)

Periodontal Therapy

To ensure your smile stays healthy, we'll check your gum and bone health at each visit. Periodontal (gum) disease is the most common cause of tooth loss. Early treatment is key in preventing deterioration in the gum tissues and bone that support your teeth. If you have symptoms of chronic swelling, bleeding gums, gum recession, or bad breath, Dr. Ada may recommend a series of deep cleanings.

Deep cleanings (periodontal scaling and root planing) remove deep areas of bacteria that have accumulated under the gums, around the roots of your teeth. These cleanings provide a healthy environment where the tissues can begin to heal, promoting re-attachment and halting bone loss.

We screen for gum disease during every checkup. If areas of concern begin to develop, we’ll make you aware of them to intervene before periodontitis develops.

Fluoride Treatment

Professional fluoride treatments help reduce tooth sensitivity, reverse demineralization, and make your smile more resistant to tooth decay. Dr. Ada may also prescribe a concentrated fluoride gel if you or your child are in braces, at a higher risk of tooth decay, or struggle with sensitive teeth.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Did you know that oral cancer can affect people of all ages and health backgrounds? While risk factors like sun exposure, certain viruses, and tobacco or alcohol use can raise your chances of developing oral cancer, the disease can also impact people who do not fit those criteria. We believe that early screenings for precancerous and abnormal tissues provide the best chance at intercepting a deadly disease, which is why Dr. Ada routinely performs oral cancer screenings during your dental exam.

Sports Guards

Protective sports mouthguards reduce you and your child’s risk of dental injuries and concussions. A properly fitted appliance will stay in place during bumps, hits, or falls during activities where broken or knocked-out teeth may occur. We can also customize your sports mouthguard to match your jersey colors.

Reserve a Checkup Today

We recommend that you see our Acworth dentist as soon as possible if you have a history of gum disease or frequent dental problems. If it’s been longer than six months since your last checkup, contact Hillside Family Dentistry today for an appointment.
